We’ve hired our new Executive Director!

Executive Director

The BikeAthens Board of Directors is proud to announce the hiring of Tyler Dewey as
BikeAthens’ new Executive Director. Tyler has been the Administrator at BikeAthens since
August 2012, working on events like Clips of Faith and helping develop bicycle safety training
curriculum. He emerged from a field of very qualified candidates to become BikeAthens’ first
Executive Director and first full-time staff member.

Tyler hails from Illinois, and is a graduate of Northern Illinois University and Michigan State
University College of Law. He spent nearly two and a half years as a Peace Corps volunteer in
Kazakhstan before moving to Athens. He began volunteering with the Bicycle Recycling
Program after his arrival in Athens and has been involved with BikeAthens ever since. His
experience volunteering with BikeAthens and his diverse background in cycling, education, and
volunteer management provide him with the right skill set to lead BikeAthens into 2013 and
beyond.

“BikeAthens is taking a big step forward by hiring a full-time Executive Director and we are
thrilled to have Tyler step into the position,” said Mike Ely, BikeAthens Board Chair. “His
energy, dedication, and passion for sustainable transportation will be an asset to BikeAthens and
the broader Athens-Clarke County community.”

The new Executive Director position at Bike Athens is primarily funded through a grant by the
Georgia Governor’s Office of Highway Safety (GOHS). As a part of this grant, Tyler will
develop and deliver a number of bicycle safety classes for cyclists and drivers, as well as
distribute bicycle lights and helmets. In addition, Tyler will work to further the mission and
vision of BikeAthens through continued education, advocacy, and community service.

Tyler will begin work as the Executive Director on November 15. Please join BikeAthens in
welcoming him to the new position.
